The “Lanterns at Wildwood Park” poster is a visual ode to the enchanting beauty and serene ambiance of a lantern festival. Inspired by the ethereal glow of lanterns floating gracefully against the night sky, this piece seeks to capture the magic and wonder that such an event evokes.
In creating this design, I aimed to convey a sense of tranquility and awe. The dark background serves as a canvas for the luminous lanterns, symbolizing light piercing through darkness—an allegory for hope, dreams, and aspirations. Each lantern in the poster represents a wish, a fleeting moment of beauty that illuminates the night, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own desires and the transient nature of life.
The color palette is deliberately chosen to evoke an evening atmosphere, with hues that transition from deep blues and purples to the warm, golden glow of the lanterns. This gradient not only enhances the visual impact but also mirrors the progression of twilight into night, a time traditionally associated with reflection and celebration.
Typography plays a crucial role in this piece, with elegant and legible fonts that complement the overall aesthetic. The text is strategically placed to guide the viewer’s eye, ensuring that essential information about the event is communicated clearly and effectively without detracting from the visual experience.
Through this artwork, I wanted to create more than just a promotional poster; I sought to craft an invitation to a magical experience, an event that promises to be as memorable as it is beautiful. The lanterns themselves are not merely decorative elements but symbols of community, unity, and the shared human experience of seeking light in darkness.
Ultimately, “Lanterns at Wildwood Park” is a celebration of light, hope, and the collective joy of coming together to witness something truly extraordinary. I hope that viewers feel a sense of anticipation and excitement, and that the poster ignites a spark of curiosity and a desire to be part of this enchanting event.
This is a poster for a local event that is held annually at Wildwood Park for the Arts in Little Rock, Arkansas I created in InDesign. To make sure that it had some contrast, I used two different typefaces along with various font weights. I also used different sizes of copy to draw attention to the information that was most important first. I applied a drop shadow and an outer glow for the event title, date, and time to help it not blend into the background.
For repetition, I tried to repeat the diagonal line in the image of the lanterns by not only formatting my text to have that same angle but also adjusting the bounding box of the photo to have that angle also. I also used the dropper tool to pull some of the colors from the image to use in my text and the background on the bottom of the flyer.
